Ms.Delacroix is a hypocritical Christian because she is supposed to be a religious person, but when she is given the opportunity to hurt someone, she picks up the biggest rock to throw at Tessie. This reveals that she is eager to participate in murder even though Christian values are the opposite to what she represents in the story.
Mr.Graves name represents death. He carries the black box for Mr.Summers,which means he brings death to people in the village. His name represents a tombstone or a cemetery which symbolizes death. He was the one that made the idea up to put the black dot on a piece of paper to see who dies.
The lottery symbolizes who will die each year. Basically the government is killing people as if its a game or for fun. People in the village are forced to pull a card and if they get the card with the black dot on it are killed by others in the village.
