Storyboard Text

  • In 1858 Lincoln runs for senator and loses because he is labeled as an abolitionist 
  • In 1860 Lincoln Is Elected. He he campaigns with the views of keeping  the states United as one. He is not an abolitionist but believes that slavery is wrong 
  • Shortly after Lincoln was elected, the Critten Compromise was proposed. This compromise suggested that slavery should be guaranteed where it is, Lincoln encouraged his party to vote against it and it failed. 
  • Following the failed Critten Compromise, in 1860 South Carolina Is the first state to secede, leaving a path for many other southern states to follow soon after   
  • The 11 states seceding meet in Montgomery, Alabama to begin to form the Confederate States of America 
  • April 12th, 1821 Marks the day the Civil War begins, lasting many long days and nights until the Union Victory in 1865
