  • Monarchy
  • Democrasy
  • Oligarchy
  • A monarch, such as a king or queen, rules a kingdom or empire. But in an absolute monarchy, the monarch has unlimited power. Monarchy is an old form of government, and the word has been around a long time.
  • Dictatorship
  • Any form of government in which political power is exercised by all citizens, either directly or through their elected representatives. In a direct democracy all citizens have a chance to participate. The people control and are responsible for the laws that govern their society. An example are the ancient Athens.
  • Theocracy
  • Oligarchy, originating from Greek, means a small group of people have control of a country or organisation. For example a group of elders may act as councilmen or leaders of a tribe, or the military.
  • Anarchy
  • A dictatorship is a form of government characterised by the absolute rule of one person or a very small group of people who hold all political power of a country, similar to a monarchy. African nations, such as Zimbabwe and Uganda and Asian nations, such as North and South Korea.
