  • Exposition: Hester has been charged for being an adulterer and has been marked with the scarlet letter "A". Had come to the american colonies two years ago, ahead of her husband. He never came so she assumed he was dead. She then had a child, Pearl.

  • She is made to publicly tell who the father of her child is. She refuses.
  • A
  • Hester and Pearl are at the Gov. house because the towns people wanted Pearl taken away. She came to tell the Gov. she needs Pearl.
  • A
  • Hester and Dimmesdale plan to run away to England in four days to live as a family with Pearl. Hester tells Dimmesdale who Chilingworth really is.
  • Climax: Dimmesdale tells everyone that he was the other adulterer and then (falling action) collapses into Hester (Resolution) dies. (Denouement) A year later Chillington dies. Hester and Pearl move away to England.
  • Heater returns without Pearl who is still in England with her husband. She voluntarily wears her scarlet letter, and she becomes known as a person of great wisdom to whom many women turn for advice.
