EW! Just gross! Now, Im going to be sick tomorrow!
Hi there! Im skin. Well...your skin. I help to protect your body from pathogens.
What are pathogens?
Pathogens are the bacterial cells that attacks your immune system to make you sick. And me, your first line of defense, helps to fight off the bad cells.
But, I don't get it. How does my skin not make me sick?
Here's a secret. Your skin is the largest organ, on your body. It protects you from various diseases.
I have a better understanding now, but, how does it work?
You see, your skin has several layers on top of each other. The outer layer, which is the skin that you can see, is tough and waterproof. Not only that, but, you also have good bacteria, or helpful bacteria, on your skin. And that helps to defend your body from pathogens.
Wow! Thank you for helping me understand how my skin works! Hopefully, we'll get to see each other again!
No problem. And of course you will. I am your skin after all.
