Greasers V.S Socs
Johnny's actions affects Ponyboy. Johnny made Ponyboy go on this adventure with him to the church because Johnny needs to escape from the police. Also Ponyboy's feelings about Johnny don't change through out the book. Johnny doesn't change a lot in the book because he stays his humble self from beginning to end.
The church made Ponyboy more tuff. He only had Johnny to make him feel better when he had nothing else to care for. Ponyboy also feels lonely and afraid in this location. Because of this, Ponyboy only has Johnny to help him stay calm and only has the slightest bit of hope to hang onto.
The conflict of Greasers v.s Socs are out of Ponyboy's control but that doesn't mean he can't make a difference. It isn't Ponyboy's fault that this happened, matter of fact he solved the conflict instead. Also, Ponyboy feels more humble because of this fight. Because of this, Ponyboy has to be protected by his gang or by his brothers.
