  • Getting Paid
  • Will this be enough to provide for my family debts and high taxes?
  • No more debt!
  • Of course it will!
  • Higher Taxes
  • You can't raise our taxes to pay off your debt!
  • Oh no! They'll reposes our farm too!
  • Yes we can. We are the legislator!
  • August 29th
  • We did it Shay! We closed down a court!
  • So we did! Now let's keep closing them!
  • The Soldiers got paid paper slips. The results of this were they sold them off for very low prices right away to on lookers. I think that it was a little bit their fault for going into debt because of this because they should of kept the slips for later when they really needed them.
  • September 25th-28th
  • To pay off war debt they Mass. Legislator raised taxes. This affected the farmers because when they couldn't pay these high taxes their farms got repossessed. They were shocked because they had fought hard to get rid of tyranny and now it was reforming in their new country.
  • New Plan
  • That's a brilliant plan Shay!
  • Here's the new plan...
  • August 29th in New Hampton Shay and his followers charged a court and got it closed. What led to this was the farmers debt files being in the court houses and the increase in taxes.
  • The Editor of the Massachusetts Centinel's Observation
  • Shays' personal band of 600 famers stood in front of the Springfield Court House to prevent the Supreme Judicial Court from sitting there. People all over were shocked and thought that the 'mob' would destroy their orderly government.
  • Shay would make a surprise attack and overrun the new federal arsenal at Springfield, expecting that the guards would be fellow veterans sympathetic to their cause would put up little reticence.
  • He observed that commonwealth should be considered as a cause as to bringing federal government into existence. He means commonwealth might have to do with the becoming of federal government. I agree because commonwealth was a prime factor in all of this and can't not be considered as the reason federal government came to be.
