- King Henry II and Thomas Becket were good friends as Thomas was the King's chancellor.
- I'm now holy, you will not control the church!
- King Henry II often fought with the Pope about the courts. Members of the priesthood were tried in the Church court instead of the Royal Court, which angered the King.
- You're fired!
- The King made Becket Archbishop of Canterbury, hoping that he could control the church through his friend.
- Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?
- However, Henry's plan backfired when playboy Thomas turned into a holy, spiritual man, now listening only to God and refusing to do Henry's bidding.
- Fearful of the King's wrath and praying for his life, Becket fled to France for 6 years but when he came back, he fired all the bishops that supported the King.
- When Henry hears this, he flies into a terrible rage and exclaims, "Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?"
