  • My husband lies on the rubbish-heap this morning, but before night the boy in the house will lie very still.
  • Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is a mongoose who was in a flood. He arrived at a bungalow and met Teddy and his parents, who became his new family. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi meets Darzee and his wife, two tailor birds, and Nag and Nagania, two cobras that all lived in the garden.
  • Climax
  • Rikki-Tikki-Tavi helps kill Nag when he tries to kill Teddy and his parents. He also kills Karait, a dusty brown snakeling, when he warns Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and Teddy that he is death.
  • Falling Action
  • Ding dong tock! Nag is dead--dong! Nagania is dead! Ding-dong-tock!
  • Nagaina is on a mission to kill the family and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi because she is angry that Nag, her husband, was killed. While Darzee's wife distracts Nagaina so Rikki-Tikki-Tavi could steal her eggs, Nagaina tells her that Teddy would lay still by night.
  • Resolution
  • Rikki-Tikki-Tavi finds Nagaina's eggs and kills all but one of the snake eggs. He teases Nagania with the egg and they fight. He was trying to save Teddy, who Nagania was trying to bite and kill.
  • Rikki-Tikki-Tavi wins the fight and restores peace to the garden. Nagania and all of her babies died and the Coppersmith told everyone the outcome of the fight.
  • The family is grateful that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi saved them. Now no more snakes bother them because Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is there to protect them.
