  • When you add heat to a solid the molecules vibrate faster and as atoms vibrate faster, the space between atoms increases. The molecules stay in one place.
  • When you add heat to a liquid the molecules vibrate faster and the space increases between them. They start to move around and bump into each other and they move faster.
  • The molecules of a gas vibrate faster and they have more space between each other. They move around a lot, bumping into each other as they move faster.
