  • In 1911, China created a republic under the leadership of Sun Yat-sen. Shortly after, the country is divided into the Northern warlords and Sun Yat-sen's Nationalist government.
  • Long March, 1934
  • On May four, 1919, students protested in Beijing, giving their opinions on the Allies, the Treaty of Versailles, and the purchase of Japanese products.
  • Japanese Invasion, 1937
  • After the unification of China in 1928, the Nationalist leader Chiang Kai Shek tries to purge the Communists, who were led by Mao Zedong.
  • After the rejection by Nationalists, Mao led the Long March in 1934. Traveling over 4,000 miles in 2 years, only 8,000 marchers remained from an original 85,000.

  • After the Japanese invaded China in 1937, the Nationalists and Communists joined forces again. The Nationalist forces took large losses, while the Communists gained strength in the ceasefire.
