  • AMIYAH JACKSON'S INTERPRITATION
  • THE 11:59 by: Patricia McKissack
  • Lester Simmons, a retired Pullman, is telling the audience that has crowded themselves in the shoe shop about the 11:59- a Death Train that preys on the living and makes its presence known by the sound of a train whistle. He explains how no one, not even the strongest people such as Daddy Joe, could escape its call.
  • After he leaves the shoe shop, Lester begins to walk home. He walks at a normal pace until his chest starts to hurt- as if something was pulling on his heart. He nearly stumbles, but then hears the sound of a train whistle. He begins to run home.
  • CHOO CHOO!!!
  • He comes up with an action plan: Don't eat or drink- that way food posioning won't occur! It seemed to work.  The day flew by, and soon it was nearing midnight again. He continued to feel chest pains and every time he fell asleep, he was jolted away from a nightmare.
  •
  • Nearing 11:59, Lester finds himself not alone. He is acoompanied by his old friend, Tip. Tip calls out to him, telling him that no one can escape, so he might as well stop trying- and he does. Simutaneosly as Lester drops dead, a ghostly train bust through the front of his house.
  • Hello, old friend. It is me- Tip.
  • B-but how! Why are you so pale? Where have you been?!
  • The next day, Lester was found dead in his apartment staring at his watch which just so happened to have stopped on 11:59. People who doubted the story now believed it: You can never escape the 11:59.
  • THE END.
