Storyboard Text

  • Jackson as President
  • I am Andrew Jackson
  • I am John Quincy Adams
  • The Word is out
  • I am very excited about the new waves of his presidency.
  • I think it is time for poor men to vote too.
  • Spoiled Friends
  • You're hired! Thanks for helping me SHAKE up the bureaucracy.
  • As a proud supporter, I am glad to oblige.
  • After losing to a corrupt bargain in 1824, Jackson won by a landslide in 1828. Once again, political parties were a hot topic. The Democrats supported Jackson, while the Republicans favored Adams. Now with political divisions, mudslinging was a popular campaign motive.
  • I nominate this convention...
  • Who are you thinking about nominating for the democrats?
  • Jackson's new wave, was the new wave of equality hitting America.White men could vote, even if they didn't own land. In 1828 91% of states permitted the people to select presidential candidates.
  • Force Bill
  • They will pay. Oh yes they will.
  • South Carolina refuses to pay the tariff.
  • Jackson thought that many of the jobs in the government were filled with people who did not deserve them. Using the spoil system, he hired many of his friends and supporters into the positions.
  • The End of an Era
  • "One man with courage makes a majority."
  • Jackson and his fans rid the country of the caucuses. Instead a nominating convention was proposed. This allowed people to choose the party's candidate.
  • I don't know, but it's not like us women could ever run.
  • When the South refused to pay the tariff, Jackson forced them to pay it with the military action. This unfortunately back fired when South Carolina nullified it.
  • Jackson's reign was a progressive one. He changed the way we vote, and paved the way for new ideas of suffrage. He surely was as stubborn as a donkey when it came to what he wanted.
  • Goodbye!
