  •  Nicholas Benedict is Transferred from his previous orphanage to Rothschild End by Mr. Collum, a mansion turned orphanage. Nicholas Finds a friend, John, and learns of the trio of bullies, The spiders. Nicholas also had a condition called narcolepsy, which cause nick to fall asleep during strong emotion
  • Climax
  • Nick learns from John that there is a legend of the original owners missing inheritance money hidden somewhere on the mansion grounds, and Mr. Collum is looking for it to sustain the falling apart orphanage. Meanwhile the "Spiders" plan to beat Nicholas up somehow, but Nicholas is too smart for them.
  • Falling Action
  • The boys find in their searches for the treasure, an abandoned observatory that someone stole the telescope out of, and meet a deaf girl that lives on a property near to the Rothschild orphanage, which Nick talks to with sign language for both John and him.
  • Resolution
  • After Nick gets back from researching at the town library on the treasure, he finds out that John was adopted, and that he'll never see him again. He gets mad at Mr. Collum for being careless with the letter, and allowing it to be 'lost'. In reality it was stolen by the Spiders to get back at Nick, and was burned
  • Nick fixed the drill on Violets farm, so the mining company can start operations again and pay Violets family there rightful money. Nick also locks the Spiders in a cellar and makes them promise to stop hurting people for fun, and to help every once in awhile.
  • Nicholas Finally discovers that the treasure was spent on recovering books and funding the town library, and he finds out Violets family managed to adopt John.
