Throughout these blocks are experiences that helped support the theme “one reaches maturity through experience.” In the first block it shows when Jonas first got selected to be receiver of memory. When Jonas became the Receiver of Memory, he was faced with a new responsibility that nobody else had. In the second block is when Jonas first received the memory of pain from the Giver. When He received the memory he learned that the world wasn't all cupcakes and rainbows. In the third block Jonas realized what “release” really meant. When he learned this he had to deal with the fact that his dad had killed a kid alone. He had to cope with this and process it practically by his self. In the fourth block Jonas heard that they were going to release baby Gabe. When Gabe had stayed with Jonas, he had developed feelings for the small child and saw him as a little brother. This was a feeling that no one else knew of. In the fifth block Jonas is on his Journey to Elsewhere with Gabe. During this he had learned the struggles of being a parent and he had learned how to put others before him.
