Seminal U.S. Documents Essential Question Project
How do seminal U.S. documents (1) reflect the beliefs of the people and (2) the foundations of American society?
Martin Luther King Jr. reflects the beliefs of African Americans by stating that all men were created equal just like former documents stated. JFK reflected beliefs by referring to our forebears.
And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe--the belief that rights of man come come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.
"Five score years ago a great American whose symbolic shadow we stand in today signed the Emancipation Proclamation."
The Emancipation Proclamation was established by Ab Lincoln to set the slaves free. JFK mentions that we are the heirs of the men who fought in the first and in the next paragraph he we will not back down.
Martin Luther king says that even though the emancipation proclamation was astablished and still to this day the nergos are sighting that same battle.
"We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution."
