Storyboard Text

  • This mountain is formed when continental crust collides into one another due to convergent boundaries which is when two tectonic plates hit eachother head on.
  • Under this seemingly calm sea it is quite a rush as convergent boundaries cause a magnificent natural occurrence. When the force of convergent boundaries pushes oceanic crust together this causes subduction which also forms a deep open trench because of the higher density "greater weight"
  • When the force of the plate tectonics moving toward each other (convergent boundaries) occurs with oceanic and continental crust this causes a deep open trench to occur *subduction* in the ocean
  • Divergent boundaries cause the earth's tectonic plates to pull apart and when this happens this causes "sea floor spreading" and creates the mid-ocean ridge. This also causes magma from the earth's mantle to seep through the part the oceanic crust makes, due to divergent boundaries.
  • Divergent boundaries cause rift valleys to form. This is when continental crust pulls apart at divergent boundaries.
  • When divergent boundaries occur and pull this land apart it will turn from flat ground to layered, these layers form at the fault lines already embedded in the continental crust.
