  • Cut to flashback of Doodle and Charles in the creek. Doodle is in the water and struggling to stay afloat in the water.
  • Cut to Charles running away from Doodle  who is bleeding
  • All of Doodles family at the field
  • Doodle:(crying, yelling) Charles, please let me stop, I can’t do this. Charles:(looking determined) No you have to do this if you want to be normal like the other kids. Doodle:(almost drowning, voice distorted) Please Charles! Please! I need help, I can’t handle this. Charles:(dissatisfied) Here take my hand.(Doodle takes hand and doesn’t say a word) Ok let's go home before it starts pouring. We can’t have you getting sick.

  • Charles gets home and tells his family that Doodle got lost in the storm when they were walking back home. Everyone is devastated. MS of the living room and them talking to each other. Charles:(soaking wet)(out of breath) Doodle got lost in the storm, I don’t know what to do. Mom:(tearing up)(shaky voice) We have to go find him now! Aunt Nicey: (Knowledgeable) It’s the scarlet ibis, those birds are known for bad luck. I hope the best for Doodle, but keep your hopes low.

  • All three go outside when the storm settles down to go look for Doodle. Charles is leading the way and retracing his steps. They find Doodle and he is on the ground with his hat next to him. There is blood running down his face. He isn’t breathing. Mom starts to cry and yell. Charles is in complete silence. Aunt Nicey is trying to sustain her emotions. CU of Doodle’s body. There are trees and a hazy sky above. MS of Charles, Aunt Nicey, and Mama standing near Doodle.
