What caused the Dust Bowl?
Today, class, we will be talking about the Dust bowl and its main causes!
Drought Wind Overuse of land Destruction from plowing
One reason for the dust ball was the fact that it was just too windy and this caused wind erosion.
Another reason was that most farmers on the plains plowed their fields right after the previous harvest, leaving the soil open for months until it was time to plant again.
Drought was a major cause of the dust bowl because many farmers failed to apply dry land farming methods
Another reason was the over use of farm land during the drought.
This series of events might not seem like a big deal, but they're what caused a long period of dust storms in the 1930's.
