As a Radical Republican in the United States, I feel conflict does not create a stronger nation. The conflict between the North and the South may have been solved but there is still tension between us all in this country.
In the beginning, the North and South disagreed on mostly everything from state rights to slavery to representation. We had enough differences that led us to a domestic Civil War which we lost many causalities from. Even after the war and the new amendments, tension and discrimination of our new African American citizens reemerged.
The country is not stronger because we are still divided on accepting our new citizens. The Jim Crow and Segregation laws and the Black Codes further divides us. To be united and stronger is to fight for each other to be equal in not only in law but also in society regardless of our physical appearance and where we came from.
