The witches show a fourth scene in which there are eight kings and Banquo. The eighth king has a mirror in his hand which shows an endless line of Banquo's heirs.
Show his eyes and grieve his heart. Come like shadows;so depart
Macbeth is enraged by the fact that the prophecy is true and Banquo will have descendants on the throne. With the first three apparitions, it appeared as if he would remain king without any trouble, but in reality, he will not succeed.
Horrible sight! Now I see 'tis true, for the blood-boltered Banquo smiles upon me and points at them for this.
Infected be the air whereon they rife, and damned all those that trust them!
The witches and apparitions vanish and Lennox arrives. Macbeth says that the witches cannot be trusted, yet he listens to their prophecies until the very end
