The Tale of a Runaway Slave
This storyboard does not have a description.
Mary was a slave who worked as a maid in a plantation. Her husband, Damien, worked out with the cotton gins.
Hello my name is Mary Ross and this is my husband Damien. We live in the south.
My life consisted of only working. My master would get mad at me for no reason, he would yell at me, but he treated Damien the worse. Almost everyday he would receive a beating.
WHY CAN'T YOU DO ANYTHING RIGHT?
We were both tired of this life. We heard around town about something called the "Underground Railroad", we thought that maybe we could be freed if we ran. We left at midnight.
We had to rest at the cemetery. We hiked through the woods for about 3 hours. We ran never stopping and never looking back. I never told Damien about the "Fugitive Slave Law". If we got caught we would be returned to our miserable lives and we would get punished.
We were on the run for 2 days, before Damien got caught. My heart broke as a slave catcher took him to jail. Fortunately he didn't see me, and Damien told me to leave when the slave catcher wasn't paying attention.
HEY STOP RIGHT THERE!
And now me and my husband are separated. He's in jail while I'm praying for him. I arrived to the North and a nice lady took me in. She's a abolitionist. She says that she's going to help reunite me and my husband, I just hope nothing happens to him.
