Darry vs. Ponyboy
Socs vs. Greasers
Johnny and Ponyboy are best friends. Johnny is very scared and nervous because the socs have jumped him very badly. Also, after his past experiances with the socs and his mean parents Johnny savers the good moments in life. This influences Ponyboy by making him think about the good things in life, and not worrying as much about the bad things.
Ponyboy and Darry don't get along well. Darry is very strict, and wants Ponyboy to make the right decisions in life. Ponyboy gets mad at him, and soon believes that Darry doesn't love him. This continues for a long time until Ponyboy realizes that Darry is being strict to him because he doesn't want to lose another member of the family. This makes Ponyboy more understanding, and considerate to others.
The socs and the greasers don't like each other. The socs are the rich kids on the west side of town. The greasers are a gang of hoods, that are unique. The socs don't like that they're unique. So, the socs jump the greasers, and tease them for being different. This makes the greasers mad; including Ponyboy. This also makes Ponyboy more aggressive and willing to start fights.
