•Siddhartha Guatama-Prince •Never saw suffering. Left castle and saw 3 men- One sick/ One old/ One dead. •He lived 6 years without comfort (1 grain of rice per day). Sat under tree to meditate. •4 Noble Truths: 1- Life is suffering. 2-Cause of suffering/ self centered desires. 3- Escape suffering by getting rid of self centered desires.4-Live life in middle path (no luxury/ not harsh) •After one dies, they are born in another body. Reborn over/over, suffers over/over, until reaching nirvana.
•Kong Fu Zi- Confucius. •Lived in violence/ poverty. •Wanted people to return to customs of the past so society could be stable/ peaceful again. •5 Key Relationships: Ruler and subject, parent and child, husband and wife, elder sibling and younger sibling, friend and friend. •He emphasized devotion to elders (Filial Piety).
•Laozi- Legendary wise man. •Find happiness by being one with the dao. Discover how to behave by looking at nature. •Yin/Yang: Opposite forces of nature. •Accept whatever happens because its the balance of yin/yang. •Leaders should govern by taking little action.
