  • John Adams against Andrew Jackson for president. Nominations were no longer made by Congressional caucuses. Adams was accused of misusing public funds — he had supposedly purchased gambling devices for the presidential residence. Jackson had won the election.
  • Indian Removal Act
  • LEAVE!!
  • The spoils system was a system where the president would get rid of people for no reason and put new people in. This would happen when new presidents would come into office. This was very hard for some people financially for their family.
  • Trail of Tears
  • a case in which the United States Supreme Court vacated the conviction of Samuel Worcester and held that the Georgia criminal statute that prohibited non-Native Americans from being present on Native American lands without a license from the state was unconstitutional.
  • Andrew Jackson Interesting Fact
  • BYE
  • A certificate that was Authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders. This was just basically taking the land from the native Americans
  • The Cherokee nation was forced to give up its lands east of the Mississippi River and to migrate to an area in present-day Oklahoma. They had to leave everything behind. They called it the trail of tears because it was very upsetting
  • Both of Jackson’s parents, Andrew and Elizabeth, were born in Ireland’s Country Antrim, and in 1765 they set sail with their two sons. They went their and then had more kids. One of which was Jackson.
