  • What is that tapping, tapping at my chamber door?
  • Rising Action
  • I opened the door to find darkness there, and nothing more.
  • Climax
  • Will I ever see Lenore again?
  • "Nevermore"
  • It was a dark December night. The narrator almost fell asleep reading folklore, until he heard tapping at his door.
  • Falling Action
  • "Nevermore"
  • The narrator grows scared and nervous. He opens his door to find what the tapping is, but he finds nothing.
  • Resolution
  • You demon!
  • It was a raven that was tapping. The narrator asks the if he will ever see his lost love, Lenore. The raven says, "Nevermore" every time the narrator asks. In result of this, the narrator gets furious with the bird, and he starts throwing cushions at the bird.
  • Allusion
  • The narrator starts screaming and yelling at the bird. He wishes for it to be gone, but the bird stays perched on the pallid bust of Pallas.
  • Leave!
  • The raven is still staying. The narrator starts calling the bird a demon. The narrator says his soul shall be lifted.
  • One example of allusion in this story is when Poe refers to the goddess of wisdom. In the story it says, "Perched upon a bust of Pallas."
