Nick then switches his attention to this mysterious neighbor. Gatsby invites him to one of his big parties later that night after finding out he is a key way to Daisy.
Later on in time, Nick attends a party with Tom and Daisy there. He introduces everyone, when he introduces Tom to Gatsby, they meet briefly but Gatsby disappears.
The group plus Jordan Baker, a girl whom Nick has began to have a relationship with, all go out for lunch and then go to the plaza hotel to continue drinking. Tom catches on to the looks Daisy and Gatsby exchange. He confronts Gatsby, Gatsby claims Daisy is leaving Tom for him. Daisy denies it. Tom then says for the group leave and Daisy can go home with Gatsby instead of riding with Tom.
On the drive home, Daisy crashes Gatsby's car into Myrtle outside of Wilson's (Myrtle's husbands) house. Gatsby tells Daisy he will take the blame for her.
Later on in the story, Wilson kills Gatsby as he should have killed Daisy but Gatsby took the blame. The funeral for Gatsby is only attended by Gatsby's father, Nick, and a priest.
Tom and Daisy run off on a mysterious trip. Nick disgusted with what he has seen these past few months also leaves town...
