Storyboard Text

  • Victoria and Her Family
  • Alex, calm down. After studying, I'm making spaghetti!
  • Senti el bebe mi amor.
  • YAY, Waaa Waaa
  • Victoria Faints
  • AAAAH! Not again! Victoria WAKE UP!
  • Hay Victoria! Respira! Vamos a llevarte a la clinica.
  • Off to the Clinic, the Last Resort
  • I have so much homework to do. How's mami and the baby? Gotta cook tonight...
  • Victoria lives in a rural area of La Belle, Florida (33975) with her 4 (soon to be 5) siblings and her Salvadoran parents. Leftover fast food from the father's part-time workplace, crops, and monthly groceries (nearest store is 30 min) are their nutritional sources.
  • Faulty First Impressions
  • Ho-la, co-mo est-as? Would you like the Spa-nish form?
  • Victoria faints, and Isabella finds her. Mom is an illegal immigrant, and is afraid of being deported. She bears through to be with her daughter. This is the third time Victoria has fainted in the past 2 months.
  • Physician-Patient Interaction
  • (Sigh) another dreamer leaching off of the system...
  • Father drives their only car (using the gas needed to go to work) and children are left behind, with Isabella in charge.  They are headed to Neighborhood Health Clinic in Naples. The clinic provides free services to low-income, uninsured working patients.
  • The Problem Persists
  • I am so sleepy...and faint...
  • They arrive after 50 min. Receptionist automatically assumes she only speaks Spanish. This is an inclusive clinic, that provides free to affordable services, and has interpreters and Spanish forms.
  • Iiiii'm not feeling well...can I please see a doctor now?
  • Doctor mainly approached from biomedical perspective; the patient is not drinking enough fluid. From sociocultural perspective she would have known that she is highly stressed from familial, financial, and educational pressures.
  • You tested negative for everything. Make sure to drink lots of fluids.
  • The car is used for work, but luckily there is the school bus for the children and Victoria. Even after drinking many fluids everyday, she is still very faint. Perhaps she has another illness? Perhaps stress is impairing her immunity?
