The king of Ayodhya is upset that he is getting old and has no sons to take his place in throne. Ravana the demon is not letting the gods give him sons.
"I long for a son, a son that will take my place in throne."
"Give each one of the three wives this drink. It is a boon that will bring sons."
Vishnu is being reincarnated to earth to kill Ravana. He sent a messenger to give the king a drink so he can have sons.
Soon, the king had four sons, Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Satrugha. Rama and Lakshmana were inseparable. The king was very happy and his secret favorite was Rama.
A sage came to the king because he need's Rama's protection for a sacred ritual. The king is scared to give up Rama. But Rama says he will go and Lakshmana will join him.
"I pray, Dasaratha, that you allow me to take Rama with me to protect my sacred rite."
Lakshmana, Rama, and the Sage killed many demons i the forest including the great big demoness Tataka. Their goal was to kill Ravana.
Rama married the Sage's daughter, Sita. She was a goddess and Rama was the only one who could lift Shiva's bow so that is why they got married
