Storyboard Text

  • Hello! I'm Sigmund Freud! Have you ever wondered what drives us humans to do things?
  • Have you ever acted impulsively? Well, that is the id part of the human psyche at work
  • The id thinks that every wishful impulse should be satisfied immediately
  • There is also the ego which helps us work realistic ways of satisfying the id
  • The ego pushes the id in a more realistic direction, attempting to maximize pleasure and minimize consequence
  • And finally the superego, which incorporates the values and morals of society in decision making
  • It controls the id's impulses and turns the ego to moralistic goals, rather than simply realistic ones
  • But often all three of these can become overwhelmed and cause an individual to feel anxiety
  • People use defense mechanisms to deal with these and other problems
