Hello! I'm Sigmund Freud! Have you ever wondered what drives us humans to do things?
Have you ever acted impulsively? Well, that is the id part of the human psyche at work
The id thinks that every wishful impulse should be satisfied immediately
There is also the ego which helps us work realistic ways of satisfying the id
The ego pushes the id in a more realistic direction, attempting to maximize pleasure and minimize consequence
And finally the superego, which incorporates the values and morals of society in decision making
It controls the id's impulses and turns the ego to moralistic goals, rather than simply realistic ones
But often all three of these can become overwhelmed and cause an individual to feel anxiety
People use defense mechanisms to deal with these and other problems
