The Dred Scott Case Minah Syam Period: C
Dred Scott was an enslaved man living in Missouri. His owner then moved to territories that didn't allow slavery. Then he filed a lawsuit to be a free man.
This case had to be taken to the highest court called the US Supreme Court.
Dred Scott had lost the case to become a free man. He was not considered an American Citizen, so he could not be a free man.
Then the court's decision also said that slaves were also considered to be property so there is another reason why Dred Scott couldn't be a free man.
The court had also said the the congress didn't have the right to keep out slavery in any territory.
