Storyboard Text

  • The Dred Scott Case Minah Syam Period: C
  • Dred Scott was an enslaved man living in Missouri.  His owner then moved to territories that didn't allow slavery.  Then he filed a lawsuit to be a free man.
  • This case had to be taken to the highest court called the US Supreme Court.
  • Dred Scott had lost the case to become a free man.  He was not considered an American Citizen, so he could not be a free man.
  • Then the court's decision also said that slaves were also considered to be property so there is another reason why Dred Scott couldn't be a free man.
  • The court had also said the the congress didn't have the right to keep out slavery in any territory.
