Chapter one story board.
We don't HAVE any ketchup Lennie!
Theme: light and dark
Lennie could never have been considered intelligent by any standards, even at this time, he is daft, naive and lacks even the simplest of common sense, he has the mental capacity of a 5 year old and is probably illiterate. He sits down and drinks a copious amount of water that could harbour bacteria.
The three cans of beans held by Lennie represents the hard times that they have been facing. When Lennie asked for ketchup, George says he wished they had it. This demonstrated just how at odds these men were with life during the great depression
The theme of this story appears multiple times in the first chapter. As the characters arrive at the river it begins to grow dark. Lennie is shown to be naive and daft while George is an intelligent and bright guy.
