Storyboard Text

  • Have you ever wonder what Velcro is?
  • Yes, Velcro is very cool and easy to use.
  • Well Velcro was made by Georges de Mestral, a Swiss engineer who, in 1941 went for a walk in the woods and wondered if the burrs that clung to his trousers could be turned into something useful.
  • What did he create for it to become useful?
  • Velcro.
  • Cool. But why did he name it 'Velcro'?
  • He named his invention Velcro, a combination of the words "velvet" and "crochet," and formally patented it in 1955.
  • That's interesting. How come Velcro sticks together?
  • Is there any other interesting facts about Velcro?
  • After nearly eight years of research de Mestral, Velcro works by having two strips of material, one with lots of tiny hooks, and one with lots of thinner loops that the hooks can cling to when the two elements are pressed together. The more hooks and loops that are attached, the stronger the bond
  • What do they use Velcro in?
  • Wow!, thanks Mr. Collin for this interesting information.
  • People described the product as a zipperless zipper. Velcro has lots of uses like clothes, pillows, watches, shoes and many more.
  • Come on Betty, lets go off to recess.
