Sarah Elisabeth Jacob (Sarah E. Goode) was Born into Slavery in 1850 Toledo,Ohio to Oliver and Harriet Jacobs.
She gained her freedom at the end of the Civil War (1865) and moved to Chicago shortly after. In Chicago she met and married Archibald Goode, a carpenter.
In Chicago Sarah E. Goode successfully ran a furniture store. She also had a few kids though no one knows the exact amount
Sarah E. Goode came up with the Idea of a bed that when folded up could also be used as a desk based off the small sizes of Chicago apartments

On July 14,1885 Sarah E. Goode became one of the first African American women to receive a patent.
Sarah E. Goode passed away in Chicago on April 8th,1905
