Anton Von Leewonhoek Anton made his own microscope, which he used to look at bacteria. He called bacteria "animalcules". This is important because to look at cells, you need a microscope. Cells cannot be seen by the naked eye.
Robert Hooke Robert made the term "cell". While looking at a wine cork under a microscope, the cells reminded him of prison cells, hence the name "cells".
Theodor Schwann figured out that all animals are made out of cells. Theodor also has a nerve cell named after him (Schwann cell) and invented oxygen breathers for firefighters. Matthias Schleiden figured out that all plants are made up of cells. He was a Botanist, which means that he studied plants.
Rudolf Virchow Rudolf inisists that he found evidence that proved that cells come from other cells, but he actually stole the idea from Robert Remak.
Matthias strongly believed that cells just appear on their own. Theodor did not. Thankfully, Rudolf cleared it up be saying that cells are formed by other cells.
