They get on the train together and Julio shows Victor that he can get inside the train and there are cars inside that you hide in if there is a road block and police are making the border crossers get off and deporting them back to where the live.
Victor and Julio get off the train in Nogales and realize how low they are on money. The decide to stick around for as long as they need to make some more money to buy new clothes and more food and maybe a new backpack. The two stick around and are able to make money off of washing cars and selling cheap items on the side of the street. Julio decided that since it started raining he would take the tunnels through and ride the flood, leaving Victor alone in Nogales.
•Victor had been in Nogales for a few weeks after being deported and he ran into his friend Rico from Los Arboles. They had a joyous reunion and worked together to make enough bus money to get across the border. They met a coyote named Jarra and Rico decided to get across the border by carrying drugs for them. Victor did not like that idea but went anyways and they ran away from the group when Rico overheard Jarra and the other Coyote talking about killing Victor. They were able to escape after Victor saw a leopard and Jarra was unable to follow.
Victor and Rico were offered a job at in Dayton, Washington to work in the asparagus fields. They heard that harvesting the asparagus makes good money as long as you are able to keep up a steady pace. Victor was able to make 250 dollars to send home. He was really glad that he had finally reached what he left home for on the first place. Rico didn't really have a reason for being there and decided he wanted to go home. So he and Victor said their goodbyes and Rico went to live with his sister and see his family back home, and even go to school.
