  • Its dark and rainy out and the White's are inside with the curtains drawn. Herbert and Mr.White are playing chess and Mrs.White is knitting. Sergeant-Major Morris arrives and tells the family about a monkey's paw that he acquired. He tries to get rid of it but the family decides to keep it. They wish for 200 pounds once the Sergeant is gone.
  • Climax
  • Mr and Mrs.White wake up the next day. Herbert is at work and the White's are eating breakfast when a well dressed man shows up at the door. He tells the White's that sadly, Herbert has dies. He says that Herbert had been caught in the machinery and that the company would like to pay the family a small compensation of 200 pounds. Mrs.White shrieks and Mr.White faints.
  • Falling Action
  • In the middle of the next night, Mrs.White wakes up and says she has an idea. She says that Mr.White can just "Whish" Herbert back. Mr.White is hesitant because he knows that the wish will have consequences. Mrs.White forces him to do it.
  • Resolution
  • After the wish is made, knocking starts at the door a little while later. Mr.White tries to say it's just a mouse in the wall but Mrs.White runs past him down the stairs.
  • Knock!! Knock!! Knock!!
  • Once downstairs, Mrs.White tries to open the door but the lock his to high up for her to reach. Mr.White frantically begins to look for the paw in the dark. Mrs.White eventually grabs a chair and opens the lock when finally Mr.White finds the paw. Just when Mrs.White is about to open the door, Mr.White makes his final wish.
  • When Mrs.White opens the front door, no one is there. She goes outside to look but still Herbert is no where to be seen. Mr.White runs to his wife to embrace her. We can only assume his wish was for Herbert to be gone.
