  • Silao
  • Mazatlan
  • Nogales
  • Silao is important to Victor's journey because he gets on the bus to El Norte, the bus is stopped by Police and they take Victor off the bus cause he has no documents. Victor sneaks away by going under the cop car and then he runs as fast as he can following the railroad tracks.
  • Mountains
  • Mazatlan is important to Victor's journey because he meets a boy around his age named Julio and he helps Victor. They sneak onto and auto-mobile carrier and Julio gets the key from above the tire and they both hangout in the car.
  • Nogales
  • Nogales is important to Victor's journey because when Julio and Victor get to Nogales, Julio ends up going through the tunnels when it floods and Victor does what he can to make it day by day. He tries to wash the car windows for people crossing and selling gum like the other kids seemed to be doing.
  • Dayton, Washington
  • The Mountains are important to Victor's journey because he gets stuck in the mountains and it starts to snow, he builds a shelter and is running out of food. A Border Patrol helicopter says they will help him but Victor refuses and runs away.
  • Nogales is important to Victor's journey a second time because he gets deported back to Nogales and runs into Rico there, Rico wastes some of his money carelessly on ice cream. They go to the Indian reservation to try to find a way to cross because the money is Rico's, Victor doesn't want to try to say what they do.
  • Dayton, Washington is important to Victor's journey because Rico decides he wants to go home for his family and go back to school, he realizes how much his family really means to him. A few days later, they say goodbye and Rico leaves on the bus.
