Narrator plots to kill the old man because his "vulture eye" vexes him.
The Narrator watches the old man for seven nights. He doesn't kill the old man yet because he waits for the eye to be open.
On the eighth night the narrator laughs at how wise he is and results in the old man waking up afraid
The narrator sees the eye and kills the old man. By suffocating him with a mattress.
The narrator hides the old man under the floorboards, before the police come because a neighbor heard a "shriek in the night".
When the narrator talks to the police he all of a sudden hears the old man's heart beating really loud (the beating is own heart out of guilt), he thinks the police hear it but are mocking him so he confesses out of guilt.
