During the middle ages protection and safety where things that people could not easily have, they had no way of protecting themselves and so a system was brought and put in. This system is called the feudal system and it made sure that there was a stable social structure and everyone was benefiting from the jobs they had, this system provided what they need most and that was protection.
Although protection and safety where a problem another problem medieval towns where facing were Hygiene. Towns at the time were very unhygienic, the trash was thrown into the streets and the rivers, wild animals ran ramp-id through the streets and rats and mice where common inside households. Townspeople bathed once or twice a week and because the towns became so crowded and big another problem was disease.
Disease was common during this time but a very deadly strain hit Europe which people called the black plague or death, you had a 10% of chance of surviving which was very low. They say that it starts which a few bumps the first couple of days but then progressed into gross blood and pus filled boils that would soon kill you. Almost all believed it was a punishment from god.
Religion was a very important part of medieval life and historians even called this period in time the age of faith,church services were held several times a day and for serfs and peasants religious holidays were days off. The reigning religion at the time of was Christianity and many were very devout. People would go on pilgrimages or religious journey to repent for their sins or show their devotion to god.
The crusades were also another important event that happened during medieval times. They were a series of holy wars to gain back the holy land, during the crusades many of the knights that went on these expeditions where there for different reasons. To repent for the sins that they committed, reach salvation and others for adventure and wealth.
Trade was also another part of life at the time. Merchants were very wealthy and sold goods from all over Europe during merchant fairs. Guilds were also a part of trade but they where a group of people practicing the same skill, to become a part of a guild at the age of 12 you worked as an apprentice for 7 years under the guilds household, after the 7 years were up they completed a piece of work called a masterpiece and if it it passed you were able to sell your pieces of works.
