Demeter is the goddess of the harvest and presides over grains and the fertility of the earth. she was also goddess of sacred law and the cycle of life and death.
Demeter had a child named Persephone. Who is the goddess of springtime, and vegetation. By her brother Zeus.
Persephone sweet heart and spirit was in the woods when, Hades's three-headed dogs ranned up to her, and she wasn't even scared, she was full of laughter.
The god of the underworld Hades abducted Persephone to make her become his wife. And Demeter would never give up looking for her.
Zeus had to interfered and sent his messenger Hermes to the underworld to bring Persephone back and prevent the extinction of all life on Earth. Later on Persephone became the goddess of the underworld as well.
Demeter was granted only eight months per year with Persephone, but her daughter would remain with Hades for the remaining four months.
