I apologize but I will just have to put all of the researched information on this one storyboard because since I am not upgraded I cannot make anymore boards. In 1957 for round 1 the Soviet Union won for launching the Sputnik 1 But, in the next round the U.S won in 1969 for landing the first humans on the moon. Finally, both sides ended up winning because they both collaborated on the Apollo- Soyuz Test Project.
1957-170's Major events: August 21st, 1957- The first international Semyorka ballistic missle October 4th, 1957- First artificial satellite & first signals from space November 3, 1957- First dog in orbit (Laika) The results: The U.S Won! This is because they had a huge advantage since the Soviet Union had experienced 4 failed attempts. When the two commanders of the two crafts greeted each other they did a "hand shake of peace" which symbolized the improvement of the U.S v.s the Soviet Union relations in the late Cold War era.
For the Soviet Union the space race had become a huge and unanticipated public relation boost. Fr them to be able to produce a strategic bomber meant that they invested greatly in Missle technology. It also encouraged their scientists to become ambitious. And the Soviet Union gained international prestige had given their population something to be proud of.
