My name is Grace Cooper and I am 12 years old. My life has been terrible so far.
I work in a coal mine in South Wales.
My father has died from binge drinking when I was young. Leaving me with my mother and my 2 little brothers.
Our owner only cares about his earnings. He would do anything to keep his earnings up.
Some of the workers wanted to escape. But the consequences were too big. Some of the workers did attempt to escape. However they were not successful. People have gotten beat up really badly and girls got their hair cutted.
I wonder everyday what the government is doing. Letting us work in terrible environments for their profit. Probably never thinking of how much we are forced to work a day. We just need somebody to talk to the government. We just need hope for the future.
