Storyboard Text

  • Well, that's because the earth is at a 23.5 degree tilt.
  • Hey, mom. I got a letter from my friend that lives in Australia and she said that it was winter where she lives but, isn't it supposed to be summer because here in California we are in summer.
  • The earth fully revolves around the sun every 365 days. And every 3 months the seasons change.
  • Exactly!
  • Oh... so that's why there are 4 seasons in a year
  • When the earth is at this position, it's Fall (Autumn). The date is September 1st. This is known as the Fall Equinox.
  • The date would be March 1st. But in the southern hemisphere, it's Fall. In the northern hemisphere this is called the Spring Equinox.
  • Let me guess. When the earth is in this position, it's Spring in the northern hemisphere because it's opposite seasons with Fall. But, what's the date?
  • Bullseye! And the date is June 1st.
  • And here, it's summer, also known as the Summer Equinox, but in the southern hemisphere it's Winter.
  • Wow! Great job! And the date of this season is December 1.
  • Oh, and when the earth is here it's Winter in the northern hemisphere and Summer in the southern hemisphere. Also known as the Winter Equinox.
  • I'm so glad that I finally know why there are 4 seasons in one year and why it's winter in Australia but Summer here.
