Storyboard Text

  • This is the Southern Colonies and it was known for its rich farmlands. Some resources the Southern Colonies had were fish, grain, indigo, iron, lumber, rice, and tobacco.
  • The Southern Colonies consisted of the following states - Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia.
  • The British government wanted to tax the colonist because they needed money to pay its war debts. So that is when they thought of the Stamp Act, which was when anyone bought a newspaper or signed a legal document, they would have to buy a stamp to show they paid tax. However, the colonist responded by protesting and creating a boycott.
  • King Gorge III
  • Parliament
  • As they were protesting about the Stamp Act a man names James Otis said, "No taxation without representation"
  • The phrase, "No taxation without representation" means colonist in New England shouldn't have to pay taxes without having representatives in Parliment.
  • Boston Massacare
  • The Boston Massacre was a trajic event where British soilders shot colonist. It occured becuase the colonist were protesting about unfair taxing and King Geroge III didnt like it so he sent out warships and soilders to Boston.
  • Boston Tea Party
  • The Boston Tea Party was when the Patriots and Sons of Liberty threw cargo boxes filled with tea in the ocean. They did this because of the tea tax.
  • The Revolutionary War had happened because the colonist wanted freedom from England. This was because the British Government kept taxing the colonist so that they could pay for their war debt. Colonist didn't like these taxes so they would protest and form boycotts. Britain didn't like the protests, so that´s when the Boston Massacre occurred. After then, It got to a point to where the Americans started a war with England.
