  • In the election of 1824, Henry Clay, Andrew Jackson, and John Quincy Adams ran for president. But during the election, no one had enough electoral votes.
  • Jackson Wins Continued
  • Let's go Jackson!!
  • Clay detests Jackson because he disobeyed orders in the war and he didn't have good manners. Clay does his best to help Adams become president because he doesn't want to be president. Adams, during his presidency, increased federal government powers.

  • I was sadly defeated by the farmers.
  • I was in the war of 1812
  • in the election of 1828, there were 2 parties, the Democratic party and the National party. Both parties attempted mud-sliding, or ruin the opponent with insults. Adams called Jackson a jackass which helped him use it as a democratic symbol.

  • John C. Calhoun switched parties to run with Jackson in the election. Jackson won by a landslide or an overwhelming victory. His supporters were the common man or farmers of America.
  • Jackson had gained fame with his defeat of the Creek Nation and the British during the War of 1812. During Jackson’s first term, a spirit of equality spread through American politics. Also, farmers liked him because he defeated the natives.
  • The democrats wanted to non-elect officials carrying out laws. But Jackson replaced many federal workers with his supporters, a practice known as the spoils system.
