  • Hi! My name is James Madison. I was the president of the United States during the war of 1812.
  • 1. Native American resistance in the Northwest Territory 2. Impressment of American Soldiers 3. Interference with American trading ships
  • Causes of the War of 1812
  • PHASE 1
  • Oliver Hazard Perry took command of the U.S. Navy and defeated the British Navy. British ground forces retreated to Canada, where they were defeated by General Harrison. The Brits no longer a threat in the Northwest.
  • PHASE 2
  • After the British defeated France, they sent all their forces to attack America. They blockaded the U.S. east coast and burned the White House! Francis Scott Key wrote the "Star Spangled Banner" during this time of war.

  • PHASE 3
  • British Casualties: 2000 American Casualties: 71
  • British tried to cut off America's use of Mississippi River. James Madison sent Andrew Jackson to command U.S. soldiers in 1815.
