In a Journalism class, students at Hazelwood East HS were responsible for writing and editing there own papers. They submitted an article about the dealt with teen pregnancy.

The principal, Robert E. Reynolds felt that the subject of the teen pregnancy article was to inappropriate. The principal ultimately prohibited the articles from being published.
The students brought the issue to the U.S District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, stating that the students First Amendment rights to freedom of speech had been violated.
The U.S District Court concluded that their First Amendment rights were not being violated. The students then brought the case to the U.S Court of Appeals for the eighth Circuit,which reversed the ruling that the students First Amendment rights had been violated.
