  • RISING ACTION
  • It's so cold!
  • It was late evening in the spring in Italy, Montresor runs into Fortunato and offers to share bottle of Amontillado wine with him (which Fortunato thought was quite impossible for Montresor to have). However, this bottle is in his catacombs.
  • CLIMAX
  • Montresor claims that Fortunato has gravely insulted him, and is plotting to get his revenge. He doesn't tell us (the reader) what Fortunato has done. He makes it seem that it was unforgivable.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • Montresor tries to get Fortunato down into the dark and creepy wine vault. As Fortunato starts getting curious, Montresor keeps giving  Fortunato  drinks to get him drunk.
  • RESOLUTION
  • I have now had my revenge!
  • When they reach the vaults, there is no Amontillado, but there is a hole in the wall. Montresor chains Fortunato inside, and begins to cover up the wall with bricks.
  • Montresor what are you doing?
  • As the last few bricks are placed, Fortunato screams for Montresor to stop, but it was too late. Montresor is close to getting his revenge.
  • ..........
  • Montresor  hears Fortunato make a "soft, low sound, half cry of fear" before dying.  After covering the hole Montresor covers the wall with a pile of bones. After all Montresor had his revenge.
