  • Jackson lost votes conducted by the house of Representatives.Jackson blamed political corruption and favoritism for his defeat.
  • Adams supporters teamed up with Clay supporters to sway the votes. Naming Clay his Secretary of State secured Adams the victory in 1824.
  • Clay and his supporters swayed the vote towards John Quincy Adams for president in 1824. Clay was appointed Secretary of State.
